This role is remote based but you must be US based.
Our client, a prominent financial services company, is searching for an exceptional VP of data engineering to oversee their 50+ person global data function.
In this critical role, you will own the multi-year data strategy, architecting the next generation of capabilities supporting key business functions. With a proven track record driving large-scale data initiatives leveraging Azure, SQL, Snowflake and more, you will guide data ingestion, aggregation, movement and analytics.
As a VP, you are expected to cultivate high-performing and highly engaged teams with an agile, results-driven mindset. This role requires exceptional leadership, partnership, communication, and presentation abilities. You will oversee and participate in various company-wide meetings and offsite discussions. Additionally, the VP must excel in relationship management, closely collaborating with technology and business leadership. Regular executive interactions are integral. Proficiency in Agile methodologies, DevOps, and modernising software design, development, and QA is essential.

- People leadership: Recruit, develop and retain top talent. Optimise team organisation and build succession plans. Make staffing recommendations. Manage vendors.
- Engineering leadership: Define architectural vision. Design enterprise data solutions. Set and uphold engineering standards. Foster DevOps. Resolve issues.

- Stakeholder Management: Influence and align priorities. Effective communication. Transparency and feedback. Optimise external partnerships. Provide strategic insights.
Requirements
- Expertise: A proven track record of at least 10 years in data engineering with increasing levels of responsibility, including at least 5 years of experience supervising and managing data engineering teams.
- Technical proficiency: Proficiency in designing and implementing data architectures, ETL/ELT processes, and data pipelines. Strong experience with tools such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, and cloud-based data technologies – with a preference for AWS.
- Leadership skills: Exceptional management and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and guide technical professionals.
- Problem-solving: Strong logical and problem-solving abilities to address complex data engineering challenges and deliver innovative solutions.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and influence decision-making.
- Agility: Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment, evolving priorities, and emerging technologies while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality results.
- Business acumen: Understanding of insurance or financial services industries is a plus, along with the ability to translate business needs into data engineering solutions.
