Responsibilities:
- Strategic Data Leadership: Manage the development and execution of the data engineering strategy aligned with the company’s business objectives. Drive the evolution of our data infrastructure, pipelines, and architecture to support data-driven initiatives.
- Team Management: Manage and mentor a talented team of data engineers, fostering a culture of learning and growth. Collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that scale with the business.
- Data Architecture: Design and implement scalable and robust data architectures that enable efficient data collection, storage, and processing. Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data life cycle.
- Pipeline Development: Oversee the end-to-end data pipeline development, from ingestion to transformation and loading. Leverage modern ETL/ELT frameworks and technologies to optimise data workflows.
- Technology Evaluation: Stay current with emerging data engineering technologies and best practices. Evaluate and integrate new tools and platforms that enhance our data capabilities, efficiency, and performance.
- Collaboration: Collaborate closely with data science, analytics, and business teams to understand data requirements and deliver actionable insights. Translate business needs into technical solutions and ensure alignment with the overall data strategy.
- Performance and Scalability: Optimise data processes for performance and scalability, ensuring timely and reliable data availability for various business applications.
- Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance practices, data quality standards, and data privacy compliance in collaboration with legal and regulatory teams.
Requirements:
- Expertise: A proven track record of at least 7 years in data engineering with increasing levels of responsibility, including experience supervising and managing data engineering teams.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in designing and implementing data architectures, ETL/ELT processes, and data pipelines. Strong experience with tools such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, and cloud-based data technologies – with a preference for AWS.
- Leadership Skills: Exceptional management and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and guide technical professionals.
- Problem-Solving: Strong logical and problem-solving abilities to address complex data engineering challenges and deliver innovative solutions.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and influence decision-making.
- Agility: Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment, evolving priorities, and emerging technologies while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality results.
- Business Acumen: Understanding of insurance or financial services industries is a plus, along with the ability to translate business needs into data engineering solutions.
