Purpose of Role
As the Lead Data Scientist, you will be at the forefront of maximizing data science’s impact on their business goals. With access to the richest datasets and an agile organizational structure, you’ll tackle thrilling analytical challenges and see your solutions swiftly put into action. You’ll have the freedom to guide your team’s approach to business problems and explore innovative solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of analytical methodologies and commercial acumen to drive our success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and unlock the full potential of the in-house data science team
- Identify, manage, and oversee projects across all business areas (marketing, commercial, buying, supply chain), enhancing the sophistication of our analytics and modelling
- Prioritise, plan, and manage a portfolio of projects to successful outcomes
- Understand business needs and leverage data science to address them
- Manage relationships and set expectations with senior stakeholders and business sponsors
- Stay current with state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to elevate their analytical capabilities to be more predictive and prescriptive
Specification
- Proven experience leading projects involving large data sets and complex statistical techniques
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, including non-technical individuals
- Expertise in translating complex business problems into actionable data science projects
- Solid understanding of key statistical concepts and machine learning techniques for solving complex problems
- Familiarity with cloud computing and overseeing end-to-end development of data science projects in a cloud environment
- Proficient in Python and SQL programming languages
- Strong academic background with a postgraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, or sciences from a top-ranked university
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience leading or managing a data science team
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform and its machine learning tools
- Advanced programming skills in Python, R, Julia, and SQL
- Knowledge of common machine learning toolkits (e.g., scikit-learn, xgboost) and deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, Torch)
- Experience with Agile working methodologies
